Occupational Health and Safety and Hazard Prevention Program for Managers

This course is designed to equip public service managers in Canada with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively prevent and mitigate workplace hazards and promote occupational health and safety. Through a combination of lectures, case studies, and group discussions, participants will learn about the legislative requirements and guidelines related to occupational health and safety in Canada, as well as the best practices for hazard identification, assessment, and control. Participants will also explore various strategies for developing and implementing effective health and safety programs, and will gain insights into the role of leadership in promoting a culture of safety within their organizations.

Occupational Health and Safety and Hazard Prevention Program for Committee Members and Representatives

This self-paced course equips Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) committee members and representatives with the knowledge and skills to maintain a safe workplace in compliance with the Canada Labour Code Part II. Participants will learn their roles in hazard prevention programs, covering topics such as legislative requirements, hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, emergency preparedness, workplace inspections, and OHS training. By the end of the course, they will be able to apply the Canada Labour Code, conduct risk assessments, develop prevention strategies, investigate incidents, prepare for emergencies, perform inspections, and maintain accurate records.

Information Management 101

Guided by the expertise of "Super IM," your digital information management mentor. Participants will gain a solid understanding of how to effectively manage, store, and retrieve information in compliance with ESDC policies and Canadian legislation. Key topics include the importance of information management, data classification and organization, secure storage and retrieval of information, managing digital and physical records, understanding privacy and confidentiality requirements, and utilizing tools and technologies for efficient information management. Super IM will provide practical tips and strategies throughout the course to help participants enhance their information management skills. By the end of this course, participants will be able to apply best practices for organizing and managing information, ensure the security and confidentiality of records, and leverage technology to improve information management processes.

Introduction to Digital Accessibility

This introductory course focuses on providing a comprehensive understanding of digital accessibility and its importance in creating inclusive digital environments. Participants will learn about the principles of digital accessibility, relevant legislation and standards, and best practices for designing and developing accessible digital content. Key topics include an overview of digital accessibility and its benefits, understanding the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), legal requirements under the Accessible Canada Act, techniques for creating accessible documents and multimedia, testing and evaluating digital accessibility, and tools and resources for continuous improvement. By the end of this course, participants will be able to recognize the importance of digital accessibility, apply WCAG standards to their digital content, create and evaluate accessible documents and multimedia, and utilize various tools and resources to maintain and enhance digital accessibility. This course is ideal for web developers, content creators, designers, and anyone involved in the creation or management of digital content within ESDC, aiming to ensure digital inclusivity for all users.

Applying a Black Centric Lens

This engaging course provides a thorough introduction to applying a Black-centric lens to workplace practices and policies. Participants will explore the historical and contemporary contexts of Black experiences in Canada, understanding how systemic racism and biases impact Black communities. Key topics include an overview of Black history and culture, recognizing and addressing anti-Black racism, creating inclusive and supportive environments for Black employees, integrating a Black-centric perspective in decision-making and policy development, and promoting equity and representation in the workplace. By the end of this course, participants will be able to identify and challenge systemic barriers faced by Black individuals, implement inclusive practices that support Black employees, and contribute to a workplace culture that values diversity and fosters equity. This course is ideal for managers, HR professionals, and any employees committed to enhancing their understanding and practice of diversity and inclusion through a Black-centric lens within ESDC.

Positive Space Initiative: 2SLGBTQI+ Awareness

Diversity and inclusion are essential for building a modern, high-performing public service. This course introduces the concepts, terminology and vocabulary related to gender and sexual diversity, as well as the importance of Positive Space and how to become an ally. Participants will discuss issues relevant to the 2SLGBTQI+ communities and learn to contribute to a safer, more inclusive public service

Facilitated Course

Positive Space Initiative: Becoming an Ambassador for 2SLGBTQI+ Inclusion

While much progress has been made, the 2SLGBTQI+ communities still face challenges with heterosexism, genderism, transphobia and homophobia, which can lead to individuals feeling unsafe at work. This course explains what it means to be a Positive Space ambassador and prepares individuals to offer support to their colleagues as a Positive Space ambassador in the workplace. Through scenarios and practical exercises, participants will learn behaviours that can help bring diversity and inclusion into the modern workplace.
